Ukraine Says Reports are Groundless

Reports by Ukrainian and foreign media outlets alleging Ukrainian scientists transferred a nuclear bomb to Al-Qa'idah members in 1998 are absolutely groundless, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry stated, "the ease with which this news was spread by some media outlets shows, among other things, that in their pursuit of sensationalism, certain foreign media outlets, including authoritative ones, ignore common sense and are not serious about what information they select for their reports. In confirmation of this, we need only note that there have been no so-called suitcase nuclear bombs in Ukraine since the collapse of the USSR, and such nuclear weapons have never been transferred to Ukraine's control".
