Russia has made its first delivery of low-enriched uranium to the Mexican Laguna Verde nuclear power station. The delivery was made under a contract between the Russian firm Tekhstabeksport and its German partner RWE NUKEM. "The contract was awarded after the first nuclear fuel supply tender in Mexico's history and it involves fresh fuel being loaded into the two reactors of the Laguna Verde Nuclear Power Plant four times in three years," Vladimir Smirnov, the general director of Tekhstabeksport company said. He said the contract was worth around $60 million dollars.
Previously, Mexico imported fuel from the USA under no-bid contracts.
