A delegation of government and business officials from the Iraqi city of Kirkuk is to visit Seoul early next month for discussions on economic cooperation, Korea's Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said.
The delegation of some 25-30 representatives will visit at the invitation of the South Korean government to brief officials on the progress of economic development in the city and investment opportunities there, according to the ministry.
According to a Korean ministry offiicial, the decision to increase economic ties was based on Seoul's earlier decision to send troops to the city.
A 3,600-strong military unit, including combat-ready marines and special operation commandos, will be deployed to the Kirkuk region in late April. It will be the largest foreign military presence in Iraq, after the United States and Britain.
During the visit, the delegation will hold an investment seminar to appeal for the participation of South Korean companies in reconstruction projects, the ministry said. It will also tour local industrial facilities.
