Shell Awards Major GTL Contract

Shell has awarded a major design contract for its $5 billion GTL (gas-to-liquid) project in Qatar to Japan-based engineering firm GC Corporation.

The contract pertains to the design of the onshore plant that will have production capacity of 140,000 barrels per day of GTL products. The value of the design contract was not revealed.

The first phase of the GTL project is expected to come on stream in 2009.
