Shipping — The Future Target

According to the US Navy?s top man in Europe, shipping is the weak link in the war on terror, and extremists will one day strike unless the industry acts now.

Admiral Gregory Johnson called on supportive countries to boost naval intelligence coverage of the world?s key shipping lanes. ?We have to develop a much more robust security regime in the maritime dimension... it is quite flimsy at the moment,? admitted Adm Johnson.

NATO members do not properly share information with the Mediterranean operation, Adm Johnson contended. ?We need a more coherent, fused intelligence position so our efforts in the maritime dimension are intel-led and not just out there searching for a needle in a haystack.?
