Iraqi Dam Back On-Line
Russian assistance not sought during efforts...
Expert teams from the Kurdistan Electricity Board have completed work on repairing and operating the second unit of the hydroelectric generating line at the Dukan Dam in Al-Sulaymaniyah Governorate.
The work was carried out with national effort and expertise without seeking the assistance of the Russian manufacturing company which has been maintaining the productions units of electrical power within the framework of the implementation of UN (oil-for-food) Resolution 986.
Thus, the teams have been able to secure about 16 megawatts of electricity for the Kurdistan region, which is experiencing a shortage of electricity since the liberation of Iraq, because the stations have been supplying power to other parts of Diyala and Kirkuk Governorates (previously under central government control) as a service to the citizens in these areas.
