The US Embassy in Amman has announced that a further $138.5 million out of the total $348.5 million financial aid for Jordan for 2004 has been released. The announcement was made at a ceremony attended by US Ambassador to Jordan Edward Gnehm, Jordanian Planning and International Co-operation Minister Bassem Awadallah and US Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Anne Aarnes.
This release is the second one out of a total of three for 2004, the first one amounting to $110 million. The statement points out that the financial aid is intended to help the Kingdom reduce its foreign debt burden, boost its foreign currency reserves and finance development projects. The remaining $100 million from the 2004 financial aid package will be released later this year.
