The Qatari Petrochemical Company has signed a $190 million engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Japan Gas Company (JGC) at the end of last week.
According to the contract, JGC will be responsible for the expansion of the production capacity of Qapco's existing ethylene plant to 720,000 mtpa. The plant's current production capacity is 525,000 mtpa.
The expansion project will commence at end-Q2/2006 and the additional ethylene production that it yields will be utilised in Qapco's downstream derivative units.
