Russian Authorities Confiscate Radioactive Equipment

Russian authorities have confiscated a piece of equipment emitting a fatal level of radiation, 100 times the natural background radiation, at the port of Korsakov on the island of Sakhalin. The dangerous cargo was brought in from Korea and was allegedly to be used in building the Sakhalin gas pipeline. But no documents permitting the import of the equipment, which operated using strontium and caesium radiation, were presented in Korsakov.
