The Pakistani government has chalked out a comprehensive program to equip the Pakistan armed forces with the latest state-of-the-art weapon systems to maintain minimum deterrence levels, both in conventional and unconventional fields. This was stated by President Gen Pervez Musharraf while addressing a gathering of officers from the three services at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
The president reiterated that there was "no question of either freezing or a rollback of the country's nuclear programme", as it was in the national interest. "The nuclear capability was in safe institutional and custodial controls and would be enhanced as per defence requirements," Gen Musharraf said.
