Kremlin makes Sakhalin intentions known...
According to the presidential envoy to Russia's far eastern district, Russian companies intend to expand their participation in the development of Sakhalin Region's oil and gas sector.
The head of the envoy, Konstantin Pulikovskiy, commented "today it is clear that the participation of Far Eastern companies in fulfilling orders on Sakhalin projects is insufficient to the extreme. The time has come for stepping up Far Eastern companies' contribution to the establishment of the Russian oil and gas market and the oil and gas production and refining complex in which Russian capital would dominate."
He went on to say that the time had come for the association to considerably expand its sphere of operation and - building on gained experience - embark on a new task, that of establishing a system and structure for the Far Eastern oil and gas sector.
The association was set up three years ago and has rendered considerable assistance to Russian companies in conducting international tenders and fulfilling orders for the development of oil and gas fields on the Sakhalin continental shelf.
Over 10 US, British, Canadian, Japanese and Indian companies and 20 Russian companies - largely engaged as subcontractors - are involved in the projects.
