According to chairman of Gas Manufactures Society, Muhammad Al-Khalifah said Wednesday that the international gas demand grows by 2.4 per cent every year, expecting this rate to be steady till 2030.
Al-Khalifah said that despite the decrease in demand for liquefied natural gas last year, gas remained the fastest growing sector in the energy field.
Al-Khalifa also said that the major increase in demand for gas in the Gulf area is for generating electricity and desalination, indicating that this type of demand is rising by 14percent every year.
Fixed reserves of gas in the region were estimated at 29 billion cubic meters, from which Qatar owns 49percent,followed by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Dolphin Line project, costing 10billion US dollars, was aimed at supplying the UAE with 56.6million cubic meters of Qatarigas per day.
