Oman To Boost Oil Output

Oman is going to implement new technology to raise the production of oil.

Although Oman's oil production in 2004 is expected to fall by at least 5 percent down to the previous year, the government has already started to correct the situation.

Petroleum Development Oman, country?s premier oil explorer and producer, is embarking on a drive to steam inject oilfields and remove excess water in a bid to curb oil decline and boost production.

Steam injection is part of enhanced oil recovery technique that PDO is now aggressively pursuing to enhance recovery of oil and boost production. Oilfield water management is another important issue that Oman is looking at.

Both techniques are expected to significantly boost oil production in Oman in the near future, PDO officials expected.
