Shell Faced Horrible Rebellion
At least 12 of the protestors were injured
Nigerian oil workers made an attack at an oil rig owned by Royal Dutch/Shell Group, near the port city of Warri. At least 12 of the protestors were injured, company and military spokesmen said.
80 people from the village of Ojobo, in Delta State, occupied Parker Drilling's "Rig 75" on Saturday to protest what they said is Shell's failure to honour an agreement to provide jobs and money for their community.
"The youths invaded the rig and attempted to disarm the soldiers protecting the facility, and in the process there were gunshots which resulted in 17 of them being injured", Shell spokesman Don Boham said.
"We immediately airlifted 12 of the injured youths to our clinic where they were treated and discharged", he said.
