Kremlin Stage Yukos Destruction

The President of Russia Vladimir Putin yesterday tried to defend the government, who has sold Yukos' core producing asset, saying the new owners had been active in the energy sector for "many years".

The Russian president also suggested that China National Petroleum Corporation might help manage the assets.

However, Putin's statement only intensified suspicions that the Russian government was behind the auction.
