Russia's Official Denied US Charge

Vladimir Zhirinovsky, Russia?s State Duma vice speaker, has rejected U.S. Senate claims that he was involved in the oil-for-food manipulation with Iraq, Interfax reported Monday.

A U.S. Senate Committee report stated Saddam Hussein?s Iraq allocated 90 million barrels of cut-price oil to Russia?s presidential council, in return for Moscow?s support against sanctions. The contracts could have netted Zhirinovsky and his Liberal Democratic party $8.679 million in profits, the report said.

Speaking in an interview to the Ekho Moskvy radio station, Zhirinovsky declared: ?Nobody from this committee talked to me, all of this comes from the press.?

?I have not received any money from Iraq,?, he asserted.

?I have not signed any contracts and have not seen any oil,? Zhirinovsky concluded.
