Growing Economy Of India Needs Iran's LNG

Growing Economy Of India Needs Iran's LNG

India's Oil Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar on Monday agreed to the $22 billion deal with Iran on the delivery of 5 million tonnes of LNG annually over a 25-year period from 2009.

Aiyar supposes that the deal will feed the rapidly growing economy with cleaner fuel, but policy makers should also look at conservation to save the nation's lungs.

"The growing number of vehicles is part of a lopsided policy that encourages consumption over conservation. While technology and cleaner fuels can reduce the pollution from more vehicles, at this rate the consumption of fuel will be much too high for clean air."
