Yukos Jailed Boss To Become a Parliament Member

Yukos Jailed Boss To Become a Parliament Member

Ex-Yukos boss Mikhail Khodorkovsky has announced that he is ready to take part in parliament elections.

We remind you, that last week he stated that he intended to try to stand for a vacant seat in parliament (Duma), when the deputy Mikhail Zadornov decided to resign.
Now Khodorkovsky is in prison, sentenced to nine years in May for fraud and tax evasion, and awaiting for his sentence to enter into a legal force.

However, according to the Russian legislation, an imprisoned person has a right to stand for the parliament until his sentence enters into a legal force.
Now the authorities do their best to prevent Khodorkovsky form taking part in the elections, attempting to complete all procedures as soon as it can be possible.
