The real reason of argues between Russia and Norway are not fishing resources, but oil deposits
The real reason of argues between Russia and Norway are not fishing resources, but oil deposits in the northern Barents Sea, the chairman of Russia?s Federation Council?s international relations committee Mikhail Margelov told PIA Novosti news agency.
As was reported earlier, Russia and Norway have disagreed about the status of territorial waters around the Spitsbergen archipelago.
Margelov pointed out that the Barents Sea zone neighbors the world?s largest Shtokman natural gas deposit.
At the same time he stressed that Russia has no plans to monopolize the offshore gas deposits. ?Moreover, our country is ready to agree on joint development of sea deposits,? he said.
However, Margelov pointed out, Russia will insist that Norway gives up its claims for unilateral control over the economic zone around the Spitsbergen archipelago.
