Russia Stands Ground: Gazprom-Ukraine Controversy

Russia will not change its position on gas supplies at world market prices to Ukraine, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov said on Thursday.

He said, "We need to transfer to transparent, market relations".

Earlier Russia offered Ukraine a new gas price of $160/1,000 cu.m., but the neighboring country, which used to buy gas for $50/1,000 cu.m., denied the offfer.
Under the new proposal of Russia's gas giant Gazprom, Ukraine would have to pay a full European price of $220-230 per 1,000 cu.m, taking into account a Ukrainian transit fee.
