Russian gas monopoly Gazprom?s export chief Alexander Medvedev said Ukraine should stop consuming gas above levels agreed with Russia earlier this year.
Italy said imports from Russia slid 5.4 percent in a 24-hour period that ended on Wednesday morning. Gazprom reduced exports to Hungary by 20 percent on Wednesday, said Sandor Kantor, a spokesman for the energy company Mol in Budapest.

Ukraine's national oil and gas company Naftogaz Ukrainy said last week it was forced to tap more Russian gas from pipelines across its territory due to cold weather. It pledged to take less gas in next month.
