Indian, Russian State Oil Giants To Lead Joint Projects

India's Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd (ONGC) and Russia's state-run Rosneft yesterday signed a comprehensive deal for different joint energy projects.

The agreement was signed by ONGC chairman R.S. Sharma and Rosneft President Sergei Bogdanchikov, ONGC said in a statement issued later, and will expand the two firms' existing ties to third countries.

ONGC Videsh and Rosneft are partners in the Sakhalin-1 oilfield, operated by US oil major ExxonMobil, and are also exploring a joint bid to acquire a stake in the Sakhalin-3 field as and when it is auctioned.

Rosneft and China's CNPC in November formed a joint venture - Vostok Energy Ltd - to undertake exploration work in Russia and obtain licences for various types of subsoil resource use.
