THe U.S. President Bush heard recommendations Monday from a citizens group on reducing U.S. dependence on foreign oil, and said his ideas were similar to their ones.
The group, Securing America's Future Energy, is made up of business leaders and former senior military officers.
Bush said the group was working to help a country which is dependent on oil from hostile regimes or sources of oil that could be affected by terrorist attack.He said he asked SAFE members to meet with him because he wanted to assure them that this administration is committed, as well, to diversifying away from our reliance upon oil.Bush gave few specifics.
"Their plan and my plan ... have got commonalities, and we are going to work together to get Congress to enact a comprehensive plan", the president said.
"I believe there's an appetite in the halls of Congress to become less dependent on oil."
