Russian Gas Supply: New Ukraine Leader Reconsiders Old Issue
Timoshenko pledged to liquidate Russian-Ukrainian joint company Rosukrenergo
Ukraine’s new government led by Yulia Timoshenko made some statements, which can not help improve the relationship between Russia and Ukraine, especially in the field of their natural gas supply issues.
Timoshenko pledged to liquidate Russian-Ukrainian joint company Rosukrenergo (the Russian gas transporter) and reconsider the gas supplying system.
“Ukraine, as a country, providing transit services for the Russian gas, promises to meet all its commitments on volumes and terms of the gas supply. Ukraine will be the best partner for the EU countries’, said Timoshenko, putting all the possible problems up to gas’s supplier, i.e. Russia.
“I deny any possibility to have intermediaries on the gas market. There is the state-owned oil and gas company Naftogas in Ukraine, which needs reconstruction, and there is Gazprom in Russia.”
