Russia's Gazprom threatened on Thursday to cut off
Russia’s Gazprom will cut off a quarter of Ukraine’s gas supplies, unless Ukraine pays its debts, the company said on Thursday.
“If the Ukrainian side does not regulate this situation on Monday, Gazprom will be forced to cut supplies of Russian gas to Ukraine,” said Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov.
According to him, the debt last month had swollen by $500m, bringing the total overdue to $1.5bn.
Ukraine receives supplies from Russia and central Asia via the Swiss-registered middleman Rosukrenergo, part-owned by Gazprom.
