Russian business is ready to build oil and gas facilities and major infrastructure projects in Libya, including rail networks, to further military-technical cooperation and to cooperate with Libya in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
"Leading Russian companies are specifically interested in implementing joint projects in the oil and gas and electricity sectors, and in the construction of transport infrastructure," a Kremlin source told Interfax ahead of President Vladimir Putin's visit to Libya.
"Gazprom and Tatneft's successful work to develop six oil and gas fields in Libya and their plans to continue long-lasting partnership are an example of mutually advantageous cooperation," he said.
"Individual Russian companies, including LUKOIL and Soyuzneftegaz, are intensively exploring the Libyan market. Stroitransgaz is ready to join the construction of major infrastructure projects, including the El Brega - Al Hums, Tobruk - Benghazi gas pipeline, while Technopromexport is seeking a contract to build an electric power line and sub-stations," the source also said.
Russian Railways is in talks to develop the country's rail services, the sources said.
In the high-technology sector, alongside traditionally broad military- technical cooperation contacts, Russia sees much promise in establishing cooperation in the peaceful nuclear energy sector," he said.
