Adelaide Uni Testing Hybrid Gas Rig

Adelaide University is testing a hybrid gas rig to be set up in Kingston.

Local coal will be converted by gasification to diesel which will have the capacity to supply 30 per cent of South Australia's diesel needs.

Hybrid Enegy's managing director, Barry Ford, says 150 to 200 jobs will result when the testing process is finished and the plant is built in 2015.

"With what's happening globally with oil prices, we are going to have to look after ourselves from a South Australian and Australian context and make sure that we are producing our own transport oils here other than relying on imports," he said.
