Chavez arrived in Moscow Thursday and held talks with Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in his Novo-Ogaryovo residence.
Today he is to meet with President Dmitry Medvedev in the southern city of Orenburg. There the presidents will watch military exercises at a training facility.
The talks between Chavez and Medvedev are to focus on trade and energy relations.
State-owned Petroleos de Venezuela has already signed deals with Gazprom and seven other energy companies.
Still, as it is reported by Russian press, the main target of this visit is to get a $1 billion loan which allows Venezuela to buy Russian air-defense systems and armored vehicles and to partake in aviation technology programs.
