The world’s deepest borehole to be dismantled

As the Russian magazine Expert reports, the dismantling of the equipment of world-famous Kola super deep borehole (12 262 meters) is in full swing now.

The decision was adopted as early as in the summer of 2007 due to financial shortages and inability to support the project. Geologists believe that the decision was hasty and ill-considered and claim that the site could be used as an international laboratory researching geological processes in the Earth’s crust.

The borehole is listed in the Guinness Book of Records.
