The U.N. Security Council is urging Sudan to suspend any actions to halt the transportation of oil from South Sudan.
The council urged both countries in a press statement August 23, 2013 to maintain dialogue to ensure continued transportation of oil from South Sudan.
Sudan notified South Sudan in 2013, June of its intention to stop receiving, processing and transporting South Sudan’s crude - the country’s only real industry - within two months, but has delayed the halt until September 6.
Sudan has said it will only allow South Sudan to transport its crude through Sudanese territory if South Sudan stops supporting rebels fighting to topple the government in Suda. South Sudan has repeatedly denied supporting SPLM-North rebels and in turn accuses Sudan of supporting rebels in South Sudan led by D/ Yau Yau.
Last week Russia had made statements about the sale of helicopters to Sudan in the amount of 200 million U.S. dollars.
But the question of the restoration of peace between North Sudan and South Sudan still remains open.
