According to Gazprom, the working meeting between Alexey Miller, Head of Gazprom, and Vladimir Semashko, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, took place at the Gazprom headquarters on August 18, 2016.
In 2015 the price of Russian gas for Belarus stood at $142 per 1,000 cu m. Meanwhile Minsk said there were reasons for reducing the price for gas in 2016. In January 2016, russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich and his belarus counterpart Vladimir Semashko held talks, but failed to agree on a gas price discount.
Russia's current price for Belarus stands at $132 per 1,000 cu m., but Belarus believes that $73 per 1,000 cu m would be a fair price under current market conditions.
Miller and Semashko on August 18, discussed ongoing cooperation in the gas sector. It was noted that Gazprom, from January through July 2016, supplied 10.3 billion cubic meters of gas to the Belarus.
Over the past 7 months of 2016, a total of 24.2 billion cubic meters of gas was transmitted via Belarus to consumers in the CIS, Europe, and the Kaliningrad Region.
The Company continues to actively prepare the Belarusian gas transmission system for operation in the upcoming autumn/winter period. Among other things, gas injection into underground gas storage facilities is proceeding according to schedule.
In the Gazprom´s statement it was nothing said about the belarus debt to Gazprom.
Earlier, in July 2016, Russian Energy Ministry Alexander Novak said, that Belarus, a major transit route for Russian gas to Europe, already owed Gazprom $270 million for gas supplies.
