Iran to link Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan with gas market

Gas swap has been revived with contribution of the private sector and Iran will from now on, serve as a link for Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan and the gas zone, reported iranian Shana on November 8, 2016.

Managing Director of National Iranian Gas Company Hamid-Reza Araqi told Shana that that a private company has entered talks with Iran for gas swap after talks with Turkmenistan for gas purchase and with Azerbaijan for gas sale.

Araqi said the contract is 6-month old and a private company will undertake financing a percentage of the swap cost.

He added that on the average, 3 to 6 million cubic meters of gas will be daily received from Turkmenistan and delivered to Azerbaijan.

The Iranian official said within the 6 month period, one to 3 billion cubic meters gas will be swapped.

He noted that implementation of the agreement will earn benefits for all the 4 parties and in case of its success, it will be continued to be in force.

Following commissioning of the gas swap project, Iran will cooperate with the neighbors in macro policies and mutual interests have been defined for the neighbors.

«Under the deal, we will receive more volume of gas from Turkmenistan in the winter season and deliver the gas to Azerbaijan in the hot season of the year.»
