Kazakhstan's energy minister: The Kashagan oil field starts commercial output

Kazakhstan's Kashagan reaches commercial output, announced Minister of Energy Kanat Bozumbayev on November 21, 2016.

As of November 1, 2016, the daily production at Kashagan stood at 75,000 barrels, he said.

The Energy Ministry of Kazakhstan plans to reach output level standing at 1.1 million tons on its supergiant Kashagan oil and gas field by late 2016.

Oil production at Kashagan field is expected to range between 4 to 7 million tons in 2017.

Kashagan began producing oil in September 2013, but halted production a few weeks later after gas leaks were detected in its pipelines.

The oilfield was re-launched on September 29, 2016.

Kashagan is considered to be the world's largest discovery in the last 30 years, combined with the Tengiz Field.

The reservoir lies at the depth of some 4,200 meters below the shallow waters of the northern part of the Caspian Sea.

The geological reserves of Kashagan are estimated at 4.8 billion tons of oil, while total oil reserves amount to 38 billion barrels with some 10 billion out of them being recoverable reserves.
