The EU will continue to aim to extend The Southern gas corridor to Central Asia, it is told on June 21, 2017, in the conclusions of the European Council on the Strategy of the EU across Central Asia.

«Recommendation emphasizes that in energy sector in a cooperation priority between the EU and Central Asia there shall be an integration of the countries of Central Asia with each other and in the international markets and transport corridors. The EU will and aim at expansion of The Southern gas corridor to Central Asia and further development of bilateral energy cooperation from now on,» - it is said in the document.

The European Council also noted that the EU will continue to help the countries of Central Asia to develop use of renewable energy resources and an energy efficiency, offering the experience in development of a standard framework and supporting an investment cooperation with the European financial institutions.

In the conclusions of Council it is noted that the countries of Central Asia became important partners of the EU.

«Recommendation welcomes the progress made in development of the relations of the EU with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and also with the Central Asian region in general», - it is said in the document.

The Southern gas corridor is one of projects, priority for the EU, and provides transportation of 10 billion cubic meters of the Azerbaijani gas from the Caspian region through Georgia and Turkey to Europe.

At an initial stage gas which will be extracted within the 2nd development phase of the Azerbaijani gas-condensate field Shah Deniz is considered as the main source for the project of The Southern gas corridor.

At later stage other sources can be connected to the project.
