Lithuania, Latvia and Poland: The Nord Stream is an instrument of Russia's state policies

Vilnius, 12 March - Neftegaz.RU. The speakers of the parliaments of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia on 11 March, 2018, signed a letter to warn of the threats the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline poses to the EU countries; the document was earlier signed by Ukraine and Moldova.

The letter sent to the EU heads of parliament says that Nord Stream 2 is aimed at increasing energy dependence of the EU states on Russia.

«Although formally Nord Stream 2 is presented as a commercial project, it in fact is an instrument of Russia's state policy. Nord Stream 2 is not about diversification of gas supply sources, but rather about deepening of energy dependence of the EU, and especially of Central and Eastern European countries, on Russia and, consequently, maintaining their vulnerability,» reads a common letter.

«Nord Stream 2 should be viewed in a wider context of today's Russian information and cyber hostilities and military aggression,» reads the document.

Eiki Nestor, the speaker of the Estonian parliament decided not to sign the letter yet, saying he needed more time to study its content.

Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine, Latvia and Moldova called on the countries of Europe to ensure the full implementation of EU rules when operating the Nord Stream-2.
