Russia's 1st LNG plant marks a 10-year anniversary

Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, February 19 - Neftegaz.RU. February 2019 marks the 10th anniversary since Russia’s 1st liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant of the Sakhalin-2 project was launched, Gazprom Export reported.

In 2010, the plant reached its full design capacity of 9.6 million tons of LNG per year. Its further optimization allowed to increase output by another 20%.

Today, LNG from Sakhalin strengthens Russia’s position as a major energy producer and provides about 3.6% of the global LNG trade and about 4.8% of the LNG market in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Sakhalin Energy company is the operator of the Sakhalin-2 plant. The company supplies liquefied gas to Japan, South Korea, China, India, Thailand, Taiwan and Kuwait.

Sakhalin Energy’s shareholders are: Gazprom (50% plus 1 share), Royal Dutch Shell (27.5% minus 1 share), Mitsui (12.5%) and Mitsubishi (10%).
