Beer Prices to Rise
The rippling effects of an energy based economy...
The Nigerian beer industry is experiencing tough times as a result of some negative indices in the Nigerian economy.
A leader of the Lagos State Beer Distributors and Allied Products Association, Alhaji Alani Dabiri, said that the introduction of new taxes at the Federal, state and local government levels, shrinking value of the naira, near collapse of public power supply, high interest rates and recent increases in the prices of petroleum products have been stretching the beer industry to a near breaking point.
He commended major breweries for their enviable commitment to price stability, which according to him, had remained stable for almost two years. However, the time has come for producers to acknowledge the situation.
Fortunately, the country has seen the level of violance and inner-conflict decrease in recent months. This has led oil companies, such as Shell and ChevTex, to announce a return to normal operations.
