Overseas specialised training for locals in the oil and gas industry is becoming a thing of the past. People from abroad are now looking at Brunei as one of the best places for training. This was indeed the case last week. The first of several batches of professional managers and engineers arrived in the country from Shekou, Shenzhen, and Guangdong Provinces in China for offshore survival training at Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd, in Kuala Belait.
The consortium called "CACT Operators Group" comprises major oil companies involved in the design of new offshore platforms and pipelines to be built and operated in China, including Agip, Chevron and TEXACO.
The Project Manager from CACT, Terry Hartman, who is responsible for the Oil Fields Development, commented that CACT had chosen to come to Brunei above other training providers in the region including Singapore, Vietnam Thailand and Malaysia because Brunei offers the best overall package.
The package includes logistic services such as providing accommodations, airport pick-up, daily transport to and from the hotel to Megamas, and visa applications. Mr Hartman also pointed out that Megamas offered all the additional courses required for offshore training to meet Chinese standards.
