During the yesterday meeting in Ashgabad, Turkmenistan, President Niyazov invited Malaysian oil and gas giant Petronas to participate in the construction of a gas pipeline, costing about US $ 2.5 billion.
Niyazov asked the CEO of Petronas Carigali to consider joining in the construction of a gas pipeline that would hug the shores of Caspian and connect Turkmenistan with Europe via Russia and Ukraine.
Turkmenistan, Russia and Ukraine are working on the possibility to lay a pipeline that would transport nearly 30 billion cubic meters of gas annually to Ukraine and onward to Europe. The proposal is a part of the comprehensive effort to expand the gas transportation capacity of Turkmenistan.
Marican thanked Niyazov for the offer and promised that Petronas experts would study the proposal with full attention.
Petronas, a Fortune 500 company, is working in Turkmenistan since 1996. Under a production sharing agreement (PSA), Petronas is developing some blocks in the Caspian sector of Turkmenistan.
