For the start, it would construct two mega gas-based power plants of 2,000 megawatts capacity each, in Dahej and Mangalore.
The company has signed an agreement with the Gujarat government for setting up a special economic zone, which will include a 2,000-MW power plant based on the LNG (liquefied natural gas).
The company is also planning a 2,000-MW power plant near Mangalore oil refinery in Karnataka.
While revealing the ONGC?s new move on power generation, the ONGC chairman, Mr Subir Raha, said the company also plans to give out its small oil and gas fields to private firms for development and production of the fields.
