India Oil Majors Are Blamed In Fraud

India Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi blamed Wednesday oil majors of India for the theft of crude oil from their oil fields in north-eastern state Assam.
He said that against any member of his Ministry, who was involved in the fraud, would be taken ??appropriate action??.
Gogoi also ask the CBI to take over the investigations of Oil India Ltd and ONGC.
??I wonder what OIL and ONGC were doing despite reports of thefts of crude oil for so many years. They have their own security arrangements which could have prevented the theft,?? he said.
The two oil giants, however, withhold comments.




The case has become a major issue in Assam, with the local media indicating the alleged involvement of some ministers of the Congress government of the state.
Minister Anjan Dutta added more spice to the case by writing a letter to the CM claiming that some top police officials were also involved.
