ChevronTexaco Shut Down Its Production

US oil and gas giant ChevronTexaco followed the lead of ExxonMobil and shut in 48,000 barrels per day of crude oil production and 72 million cubic feet natural gas per day of production in the Gulf of Mexico due to a forecasted second tropical storm approach, named Bonnie.

Also, 618 workers have been evacuated since Tuesday from the Typhoon and Genesis fields. The production shut-ins occurred overnight, according to the company?s spokesman Matt Carmichael.

Bonnie on Wednesday morning was 265 miles south-southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River and expected to veer north-northeast and hit land Thursday near Panama City in the Florida panhandle.

The company began shutting in crude and gas production Tuesday and continued into Wednesday.
