Norwegian oil workers? strike is going on; moreover, it is expanding, according to the trade union. The losses due to the strike constitute 55,000 barrels a day for the world's third largest oil exporter. The total volume of losses represents 2 per cent of Norway's normal production level of around 3 mln bpd.
This evening, other 80 crew members will join the strike. They work at the Petrojarl Varg production rig, which is operated by Petroleum Geo-Services ASA and normally extracts about 25,000 bpd.
Oil sector workers and their employers have been at loggerheads since July. Production has already been halted on a rig in the Glitne field which usually pumps around 30,000 barrels a day.
The union has been calling for better working conditions. The Norwegian Shipowners Association, which represents companies involved in oil exploration, says it cannot meet the demands.
