Russian gas monopoly Gazprom's CEO Aleksey Miller and BP CEO John Browne discussed
Russian gas monopoly Gazprom?s CEO Aleksey Miller and BP CEO John Browne discussed the short-term and long-term cooperation in liquefied natural gas production and pipeline projects, Gazprom said in a statement on Monday.
Short-term cooperation envisages the swap of Gazprom's natural gas transported via pipelines for BP's LNG, with Gazprom supplying its gas to BP's clients in Europe and BP supplying LNG to Gazprom's clients, possibly in the USA.
Long-term cooperation includes the construction of regasification terminals and natural gas sales in the UK and USA, Gazprom said in the statement without elaborating.
Miller and Browne discussed possible cooperation in the construction of the North European Gas Pipeline. The 3,000- kilometer North European Gas Pipeline, which will cost around 5.7bn dollars, is expected to pass through Russia's Vologda and Leningrad regions, along the Baltic Sea floor, across Germany and the Netherlands and along the North Sea floor to the UK. The pipeline is also expected to have branches leading to Finland and Sweden.
The first gas supplies might start as early as 2007. The pipeline's annual capacity is projected at 19-30bn cubic meters per year by 2009.
