US oil and gas major Exxon Mobil Corp., and Indonesian state oil firm Pertamina are asking the Indonesian government to extend their contract to explore for gas in the Natuna sea.
Exxon Mobil's unit Esso Natuna Ltd. and Indonesia's state- owned Pertamina are jointly developing the Natuna D-Alpha field, and their contract expired on Jan. 9, the US company said in an e-mailed statement on Jan. 14. Exxon and Pertamina plan to proceed with studies on gas production.
