The LNG project of Venezuela's oil company PDVSA and Shell is going ahead

PDVSA, Shell LNG Project Launched

More than two years after a preliminary development agreement between Venezuela?s oil company PDVSA and the Royal Dutch/Shell the Mariscal Sucre joint-venture is going ahead.

It?s a long-term project to extract, process, and export liquefied natural gas from the Caribbean coast fields. The Mariscal Sucre project would involve an investment of $2.7 billion.

"We wish to expand our activities in Venezuela, including the realization of the Mariscal Sucre LNG and of other projects related to oil and gas," Shell's Executive Director, Linda Cook, said after the meeting with Venezuela's Minister of Energy and Petroleum Rafael Ramirez.

Both sides now discuss oil field ventures in Lake Maracaibo, in the north-western state of Zulia, and in the Orinoco oil belt in the South-Eastern state of Bolivar.
