Statoil New Found Field is Empty

Statoil has found neither oil nor gas in its test well on the Valkyrie Field off the coast of Nordland. The well will now be permanently closed.

The well which is located between the Norne Field and the Linerle Field, was drilled down to a depth of 2,248 metres.
The Norwegian oil industry has intensified its search for oil and gas on the Norwegian Shelf over the past year.

So far this year 13 test wells have been drilled, compared with 12 for the whole of 2005.
