Indian Villagers In The Way Italy's Agip Oil In Ecuador?

The oil ministry said Monday that ENI subsidiary, Italian state oil company Agip Oil recommenced its works at an Ecuador oil rig following a sabotage by members of an Amazon Indian community last week that paralyzed production for several days.

The ministry stated in its announcement that this assault was worth 90,000 barrels in lost production, but somehow forgot to mention how much the sabotage operation cost to the company.

Soldiers were sent in respond to the attack of an electrical cable powering by vandals, but fortunately the facilities weren't damaged.

It is not a news that Indians in this South American nation organize demonstrations against pollution of their lands and demand jobs. So the ministry blamed poor Indian in "extorting" economic and social benefits to local residents.
