EIA Report Shoots Up Oil and Gasoline Futures
Gasoline and oil futures rose sharply after the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported an unexpected increase in gasoline demand and a big drop in supplies.
EIA Report Boosts Refiners
Analysts agreed that the EIA report was bullish for refiners, as gasoline inventories shrank more than expected. The EIA data also showed demand for gas rose by nearly 1 percent when compared with the same week last year.
States Take EPA to Court on Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Officials of 18 states are taking the EPA to court to try to force it to comply with a Supreme Court ruling on regulating greenhouse gas emissions.
The plaintiffs said ruling a year ago required the Environmental Protection Agency to decide whether to regulate greenhouse gas emissions, including carbon dioxide, from motor vehicles.
Shell Fined for Clean Air Violations
Shell Oil Co. will pay a $75,000 fine and retire two storage tanks at a cost of more than $1 million to settle charges that it violated the Clean Air Act, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Shaw Group To Build South Carolina Reactors
Shaw Group Inc. plans to build two nuclear generating units for South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. (SCE&G) in Jenkinsville, S.C.
Shaw's Westinghouse Electric Co. will design and build the plants to be operated by SCE&G, a subsidiary of Scana Corp.
Iraq Oil Exports Pick Up
Crude oil exports from Iraq's key southern Basra terminal have increased to 1.44 million barrels a day, nearly double the 768,000 barrels produced over the last two days, according to a shipping agent.
Iraqi officials said the pipeline was fixed by Friday afternoon and normal exports resumed.
