Petroneft, Irish energy explorer, says that its Korchegskaya No. 1 well in Western Siberia has struck oil.
The company said a coring operation is currently in progress, following which the well will be drilled to its planned total depth of about 2,800 metres.
The pilot production test on the Lineynoye No. 7 well is also complete, it added.
The well produced at a stabilized rate of 85 barrels of oil per day, and the company said it is confident the well will produce at a higher rate.
